Red Bull has been told it must put Sergio Perez “out of his misery” and drop him from the team.

Perez has endured a difficult run of races, scoring just 15 points across the last six grand prix weekends.

The Mexican driver's struggles have been particularly evident during qualifying with just a single Q3 appearance in the previous seven events.

His disappointing run continued on Saturday at the Hungaroring as a spin at Turn 8 in slippery conditions saw his session end in the barriers.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has stated a decision will be made over Perez's future after the Belgian Grand Prix next weekend.

Speaking to Sky Germany, six-time F1 race winner Ralf Schumacher called on Red Bull to swap him out of the team.

“I don't know how long Red Bull will continue to look at this and do nothing,” he said. “I don't think it makes sense anymore. And he [Perez] knows that himself.”

Perez is set to start the race from 16th on the grid, however any car changes outside of parc ferme conditions will result in a demotion to the pit lane.

“He is now starting from behind again,” Schumacher added. “The damage, we don't even need to talk about that. Red Bull has so many drivers behind. This has to end.

"He should really be put out of his misery. I'm sorry for that. It's also a catastrophe for him personally," the German said.
