Max Verstappen clinched his fourth World Championship title in 2024, equaling the record of Formula 1 legend Sebastian Vettel. Both Red Bull drivers have now secured four world championships with the Austrian Formula 1 team, and Verstappen will undoubtedly be aiming for his fifth title in 2025. However, many expect a thrilling season ahead. Towards the end of 2024, the top teams were incredibly close, and most teams will already be focusing on developing their cars for 2026, given the upcoming regulation changes. Max Verstappen F1

Max Verstappen made his debut in Formula 1 in 2015 at the age of 17. For the Toro Rosso team, he finished in the points in just his third Grand Prix, making him the youngest ever F1 driver to score World Championship points.

Over a year later, in 2016, a sensational move to Red Bull followed, where, at just 18 and 228 days old, he won the Spanish Grand Prix on his Red Bull debut. Thanks in part to his young debut age, Verstappen broke many F1 records.

In recent years, the Dutchman has become one of Formula 1's brightest stars, with bold overtaking and an attractive driving style. Max Verstappen is by far the most successful Dutchman in F1 history. Father Jos Verstappen managed two podium finishes in 1994 with Benetton, something that son-love has now far surpassed.

Max Verstappen Becomes a Father: First Child Born

Max Verstappen and his beloved Kelly Piquet have become the proud parents of a daughter, Lily. With Lily's arrival, born on May 2, 2025, Verstappen has become a father for the first time. This joyous news followed a wave of speculation that arose when Red Bull announced Verstappen would miss the media day for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix due to the impending birth, which was then confirmed with Lily's arrival in Breda, the Netherlands.

Max Verstappen age and nationality

Verstappen was born on 30 September 1997 in Hasselt, Belgium and now is 25 years old. Max's father is former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and mother is Sophie Kumpen, a talented go-kart driver. Born in Belgium, Verstappen has a dual passport but races under the Dutch flag.

When he was young, Max Verstappen was already caught by the racing bug that was instilled in him at a young age. Father Jos Verstappen raced in Formula 1 until 2003 and young Max was present at several races. We saw him take a seat in the all-white Honda car in 1999 and he was also present at several races in 2000 and 2001. Off the track, the Verstappen family regularly hung out with Michael Schumacher's family.

Verstappen's success in karting

At the age of four, young Max receives a kart as a gift and is unstoppable. Only seven years old, Max Verstappen competes in his first kart race in Belgium. As a debutant, he competes in the Mini Class in the Belgian championship, a class in which the youngest karters race.

Young Max impresses and scores one win after another and becomes undefeated champion in 2005. Verstappen also becomes undefeated champion in 2006. After two seasons, in 2007 it is time for the Mini Max Class of the Belgian Rotax Max Challenge. There, Max stuns the competition by writing all eighteen races to his name.

Max Verstappen unbeatable in karting

The Verstappen family needs to build a new trophy cabinet every month, because young Max strings together victory after victory. In 2008, he writes no less than three championships to his name, with extreme dominance. Not only in Belgium does Verstappen achieve success, but also in the Netherlands he wins the Benelux Karting Series with eleven victories in twelve races. Title number three follows during the Belgian karting championship. He repeats these achievements in 2009.

Verstappen races to international top

After Max Verstappen's 12-year birthday, he was finally allowed to compete internationally in major championships. He became a factory driver at CRG and drove several championships in the KF3 class. This class features 12 to 15-year-old drivers. Once again there is no limit to Max, who is crowned champion in the WSK Euro Series five races before the end of the season, and he also wins the WSK World Series.

First world title for Max Verstappen in 2013

Verstappen has had some years where luck was not on his side, but in 2013 everything is falling into place. Victories and titles are still being won, but some titles pass him by due to a combination of bad luck and incidents. In 2013, Verstappen shows once again that there is no limit to him and that he is the absolute world talent ready for the next step in motorsport.

Max Verstappen writes the CIF-FIA European and CIF-FIA World Championships to his name. After that, it is time to make the switch to motorsport.

2014 Max Verstappen makes debut in motorsport

16-year-old Max Verstappen will make his debut in America in the Florida Winter Series in winter 2014. A driver academy supported by Ferrari, the field consists of mostly young talents from Formula 3. Verstappen has no experience in a single seater yet, but manages to adapt at lightning speed. Verstappen wins two races and is on the podium several times.

He then joined Van Amersfoort Racing in the European Formula 3 Championship. There too, Max creates a furore and his very dominant performances at a soaking wet Norrisring, among others, cause Red Bull to knock on his door. Advisor Helmut Marko is so impressed that he commits 16-year-old Max Verstappen to make his debut in Formula 1 immediately in 2015. There is much criticism of Red Bull's decision, as many feel that a teenager is not ready for Formula 1.

The criticism quickly hushed up as Verstappen managed to impress immediately on his first appearance in Formula 1, during free practice for the Japanese GP. He also takes the first free practice in Austin and Interlagos, with fine results in Toro Rosso's STR9. After that, it is time to get ready for his real F1 debut for Toro Rosso in 2015.

Verstappen world champion 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024

On 12 December 2021, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Max Verstappen won his first Formula 1 world title. In doing so, he beat driver Lewis Hamilton and he is the first Dutch Formula 1 driver with a world championship in his pocket. In 2022, it became clear at the Japanese Grand Prix that Max Verstappen had secured his second world title. This season, he also broke the record for most wins per season. The Dutchman achieved no less than 15 victories, breaking the record held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. 

However, this record was once again broken in 2023 by the Dutch driver with a total of nineteen victories throughout the season. As a result, the Dutch driver became the world champion during the Grand Prix of Qatar, accumulating an impressive 575 points this season.

2024 seemed to be as dominant a season for Verstappen as 2023, after he won four out of the first five races. Later in the season, McLaren came on very strong, leading to an intense title fight between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Ultimately, Verstappen won this battle and secured the championship in Las Vegas, clinching his fourth world title!

Jos Verstappen - father of Max Verstappen

Jos Verstappen is, after son Max, the most successful F1 driver in Dutch history. A great talent, he manages to win the 1993 German Formula 3 championship and the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort. Then it was time for a five-year F1 contract at Benetton, in which he would test for a year in 1994 to prepare for his F1 debut. Things turned out differently as regular driver JJ Letho crashed and broke his neck, forcing Verstappen senior to start as early as the first race in Brazil.

Jos Verstappen was the first Dutchman to capture a podium finish in Formula 1, finishing third at the 1994 Hungarian GP. 'Jos the Boss' eventually drove in Formula 1 until 2003, competing in 107 GP weekends. The counter stuck at two podium finishes and 17 World Championship points.

Kelly Piquet - girlfriend of Max Verstappen

Formula 1 fans see Kelly Piquet alongside Max Verstappen at almost every Grand Prix. Kelly Piquet has been Verstappen's girlfriend for several years. The Brazilian comes from a real racing family, as Kelly is the daughter of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet. Kelly Piquet does not race herself, but is active as a model and columnist.

Max is one of the highest-paid Formula 1 drivers, and Forbes has now revealed that Max Verstappen is also high on the list of the world's highest-paid athletes. Max Verstappen has an estimated salary of $55 million per year.
