Mick Schumacher has signed with the Alpine World Endurance Championship hypercar programme for his first full-time drive since losing his Formula 1 seat.

After Haas elected not to keep the 2020 Formula 2 champion on for a third season this year, Schumacher joined Mercedes as a test and reserve driver, working alongside Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

He drove the W14 during the Pirelli tyre tests in Barcelona but was unable to find a seat to return to Grand Prix racing for next season, with a move to WEC a likely position for the German.

Schumacher has joined Alpine's two-car hypercar programme - and will be joined by Nicolas Lapierre, Ferdinand Habsburg, Paul-Loup Chatin, Mathieu Vaxivere, and Charles Milesi at the team.

Habsburg, Chatin and Schumacher are joining the team as newcomers, with Lapierre, Vaxivere and Milesi all veterans of the team.

Schumacher will continue to carry out reserve driver duties with Mercedes next year.

Next year's WEC campaign will commence with the Qatar 1812 km on March 2, with the highlight 24 Hours of Le Mans event scheduled for June 15 - 16.
