Alpine F1 special supervisor Flavio Briatore has stated the squad's lacklustre form in the sport is down to a series of poor team managers.

The Enstone-based squad has had fluctuating form over the last several seasons and began the current campaign at the back of the field.

Although it has improved its form somewhat, it has scored just 13 championship points in the opening 15 rounds.

Briatore returned to the squad earlier this year before Oliver Oakes took over as team principal during the summer break, succeeding Bruno Famin.

Addressing the team's difficult form over the last number of years, Briatore believes consistent appointments of uninspiring managers are to blame for its downturn in performance.

“There was no management," Briatore told media including RacingNews365.

"I believe the problem of Alpine was this one. At one point, I believe they chose a few wrong managers. I think the list of the wrong managers was quite long. We have no list of the good ones.

"It is difficult to manage in Enstone. Enstone is a big team, a big monster. You need to be there.

“It’s very difficult to manage one team like Alpine from Paris or from another place. You need the presence, daily presence."

Oakes not ficused on past mistakes

Oakes takes over the team principal role having spent several years at the helm of the Hitech Grand Prix squad that competes in the junior categories.

The 36-year-old, who is the youngest team boss on the grid, has signed his intention to look forward rather than the mistakes of the past.

“I’m not here to sling mud and what happened before happened,” Oakes said. “We need to just, genuinely just pull together and go forward.

“I don't think there's any master plan for me, other than getting the team working together.

“We have good people. We're welcome for some more good people. That's normal in F1 every day.”
