Max Verstappen has revealed that he holds a fear of one day losing his hunger to compete in Formula 1.

Verstappen has enjoyed a highly successful campaign this year, clinching his third F1 World Championship last weekend in Qatar.

The Dutchman has dominated the season, winning 14 out of the 17 Grands Prix staged this campaign.

He has a contract in place until the end of the 2028 season but his future in F1 beyond that period has been questioned amid his opposition to the sport's calendar expansion and the introduction of more sprint events.

But as he continues to enjoy his ongoing success, Verstappen was asked by media including RacingNews365.com if he is afraid of losing his hunger for F1, to which he replied: “For sure.

“I think that that's normal. Of course, I'm still very young but at one point I think you've had enough.

“I think everyone at one point has that if that is because you realise that your body can't handle it anymore in some sports then you have to accept that.

“You have to just, in a way retire, but for sure, at one point, you might want to do other stuff or race a bit less, absolutely. But not right now.”
