A downbeat Max Verstappen declared that Red Bull has "no clear direction or solution" to solve its Monaco Grand Prix practice problems.

Defending race-winner Verstappen and his team-mate Sergio Perez endured a tricky day in Monte Carlo, finishing fourth and eighth, respectively in Free Practice 2 as the RB20 struggled over the bumps and kerbs.

At one point, Verstappen even claimed he was bouncing "like a kangaroo" and was starting to have "headaches" as a result of the bouncing.

Reflecting on the troubled day, Verstappen revealed it was not something that came as a surprise, but that the team was still stumped.

"I don't think I can even describe what is actually going on - it is just very difficult," Verstappen explained.

"It is not something that I didn't expect, but it is definitely at the higher end of the worst possible outcome for the weekend so far.

"It is just very difficult, a lot of bumps and kerbs and camber changes in the track and it is basically impossible to take every time we go over it, we lose a lot of lap time because the car doesn't ride it well and that is definitely hampering us at the moment to go faster.

"There is no clear direction or solution for the weekend to try and solve something like that."

How the car was designed

Verstappen put the problems down to how the car itself was designed - and that he does not expect miracles of the type the team enjoyed last weekend at Imola where it bounced back from a troubled Friday to earn pole and the win through Verstappen.

"Imola was completely different, different issues that you can solve with the set-up - these kinds of things you cannot solve with set-up because that is how the car is made and designed," he said.

"You cannot change these kinds of things overnight and so we are stuck with it - we are trying to make it a little better, but I don't expect any miracles."
