Max Verstappen has confirmed Red Bull will again continue with experimentation around its problematic RB20 throughout the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

Red Bull went to extreme measures over the Dutch GP event at Zandvoort to cure the balance issues of the car, deploying two different specifications. Verstappen ran an early-season floor package, whilst team-mate Sergio Perez tried a newer version.

In the wake of Verstappen finishing a third-of-a-second off the pace of McLaren's Lando Norris in qualifying, and 22.9s adrift at the end of the race - the largest margin of victory this year - Red Bull will again address its concerns around low-downforce Monza.

"The problem in Zandvoort, with the wind and the rain, it was very difficult to get a bit of a read [on the two different packages]," said Verstappen, speaking to media, including RacingNews365.

"It's a very different weekend now, and besides the stuff we want to try on the car, the track is quite different. We also need to keep track of that to make the right calls.

"We're trying a lot of stuff to try and improve the balance of the car."

Red Bull only has "a bit of an idea"

Verstappen dismissed a suggestion that Zandvoort was a wake-up call for the team, despite Red Bull's advantage in the constructors' championship whittled down to just 30 points, and his lead over Norris in the drivers' standings cut to 70.

"It just wasn't the best weekend for us for different reasons," insisted Verstappen. "We couldn't get the car to work the way we wanted it.

"The wind made it very difficult for our car, and with the balance issues we have, it was not the strongest weekend."

As to whether the team learned anything in the variable conditions from the two specifications of cars, he said: "We had a bit of an idea, of course.

"But it's not like Checo's car was only very fast, right? So we need to find more performance and better balance because we were still complaining about the same balance issues."
