Which driver cost the most money when it comes to damages during the 2023 Formula 1 season?

It's the table that no driver wants to be at the top of as it means they have likely inflicted a lot of crash damage throughout the year.

Logan Sargeant tops the list after his difficult races at the Dutch and Japanese Grands Prix, bringing his total to $4.3 million. Sargeant crashed twice at Zandvoort, costing Williams $1.4 million. The team even revealed that development for 2024 was impacted by the many crashes, as Alex Albon's total also came to $2.7 million.

Number two on the list is Carlos Sainz, which is mainly due to two big crashes in the season. The Spaniard fell victim to a loose manhole cover in Las Vegas, then crashed a week later in Abu Dhabi, costing Ferrari a whopping two million dollars. Add in some more damage at Monaco, Canada and Belgium and you arrive at a figure of $3.6 million.

The final podium was for Sergio Perez. The Mexican drove $3.2 million in damage, the most significant crash happening at Monaco where Perez crashed hard during qualifying and cost Red Bull more than a million dollars.

The list below was compiled by basspro24chevy on Reddit, who kept track of all damages throughout the year and compiled these estimated amounts. This does not include costs for broken engines.

Verstappen had by far the fewest incidents

The driver at the bottom of this list is Max Verstappen, with the Dutchman's total coming in at $345,000.

Verstappen sustained damages in Azerbaijan (a broken sidepod after a touch with George Russell in the sprint race), Great Britain (broken front wing while exiting the pit lane during qualifying) and Las Vegas (broken front wing after another touch with Russell).

Ironically, Russell sustained damage in the fewest race weekends. Besides Las Vegas, he sustained damage only in Canada and Singapore. Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton also kept the amount under a million. Altogether there was around $40 million in damages throughout the season from every driver, and that does not include engine costs.
