Adrian Newey has set a deadline for the decision over his future in Formula 1 following his exit from Red Bull.
Newey will depart the reigning world champions in early 2025, bringing an end to his highly successful stint with the squad that began in 2006.
The Briton is regarded as one of the greatest-ever car designers in F1 history and has won 13 titles with the Milton Keynes-based squad.
However, he has been linked with other F1 projects, including at Ferrari and Aston Martin.
With a decision looming, Newey asserted he has not yet taken up an option for his future.
“I don’t know,” he told Sky F1. “At the moment I’m just kind of still working on the RB17 [hypercar], and then just taking some time off.
“Last week actually we took seven days and lucky timing on the weather obviously, and went around the South Coast with our dogs in an old Aston Martin DB6 and that was great fun.”
When asked if he will know his next move by autumn/winter, he stated: “That’s certainly a target, by then I’ll need to make my mind up.”

Newey plays down Verstappen-Norris crash
Red Bull missed out on a home victory last time out in Austria after Max Verstappen was involved in a late-race clash with McLaren's Lando Norris.
The pair came together at the Red Bull Ring on lap 64 at Turn 3, resulting in terminal damage for Norris while Verstappen was demoted to fifth.
Newey expects there will be no overlinging issues regarding the crash.
“I would imagine Max and Lando will probably have a little chat at Silverstone,” he said. “They're both great lads, they'll sort it out amongst themselves.
“It's one of those where everyone is getting a little bit fractious but not to allocate blame at all, it's just one of those things.
“They're both great drivers, they'll be fine.”
