Nico Hulkenberg will race in a special helmet at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend, in support of Dutch charity Lymph&Co which is focused on tackling Lymphoma.
The German driver presented his new-look design on media day at Zandvoort, along with Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands and the director of the Dutch Grand Prix, Robert van Overdijk.
Uniquely, Hulkenberg's helmet will be auctioned directly after the race, with the highest bidder taking home the signed item.
The money raised by the foundation goes directly to scientific research to create better and more effective treatments for patients who have Lymphoma, a form of cancer.
To create even more attention for the foundation, Hulkenberg's helmet will also feature the logo of the Lymph&Co foundation.
The Haas driver grew up in Emmerich, Germany, just across the border from the Dutch city of Nijmegen. Therefore, Hulkenberg also speaks quite a bit of Dutch and has a connection to the country.
Let's fight together against lymphoma
About one in 50 men and women will, during his or her lifetime, be diagnosed with Lymphoma.
In the Netherlands alone, about 4,000 new patients are added each year, and this number is increasing.
This makes Lymphoma the third-largest cancer in children and young adults and the fifth-largest in adults in The Netherlands.
Despite intensive treatments, more than 1,000 patients die annually in The Netherlands as a result of this disease.
There is still too little attention for Lymphoma and there are not enough good treatment options.
Lymph&Co calls attention to Lymphoma and funds ground-breaking scientific research into better and more effective treatment options.
Bernhard van Oranje himself survived Lymphoma and is the founder and chairman of the Lymph&Co.
