Alex Albon has suggested Carlos Sainz has ideas of implementing a “different structure” at Williams following his move from Ferrari.

The Spaniard will link up with Albon at Williams next year when his four-season stay at the Italian squad comes to an end.

Sainz will arrive at a Williams team looking to make strides up the F1 pecking order under the guidance of James Vowles, who took over as team principal last year following a lengthy stint at Mercedes.

Albon will enter his fourth campaign at the Grove-based squad next season, offering Williams valuable continuity.

When asked if he has talked in detail with Sainz, Albon told media including RacingNews365: “Not too much, no.

“We spoke more before he signed. Now he’s signed, he’s focusing on his job at Ferrari.

“I'm sure as we get closer and closer towards the end of the year, we'll pick up the comms.

“It's important for me as well to tell him the areas I think we need to push, as the drivers, into the team.”

However, Albon also suggested Sainz's experience at Ferrari can offer Williams a fresh boost as it aims to improve its competitive level.

“There are a couple of things structurally that are different at Ferrari than Williams,” Albon added.

“There are some ideas he has about creating a different structure within the race team, at least, which I'm pretty open to hear and see what he has feedback on.”
