Formula 1 has announced the six races that will feature Sprint races in the 2024 season, as China returns to the calendar with a Sprint.

The Shanghai International Circuit has not hosted F1 since 2019 - the 1,000th World Championship race - due to COVID-19 and political reasons, but is set to return in 2024, and will host the first Sprint of the season on April 20th.

Four of the venues remained unchanged from 2023 with the Austrian, the United States, São Paulo and Qatar Grands Prix featuring the shorter Sprint event.

The only other change from 2023 for 2024 is Miami hosting its first Sprint, with the Azerbaijan event reverting back to just the Grand Prix.

The full 2024 F1 Sprint schedule is available below.

Sprint races in 2024 F1 season

Round Race Venue Date
5 China Shanghai April 20th
6 Miami Miami May 4th
11 Austria Red Bull Ring June 29th
19 United States Circuit of the Americas October 19th
21 Sao Paulo Interlagos November 2nd
23 Qatar Lusail November 28th

Sprint format still undecided

After uncompetitive Sprints in 2023, changes to the format have been mooted, but nothing has officially been confirmed.

At the F1 Commission meeting at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, it was decided to further discuss tweaks to the format.

RacingNews365 understands that the Sprint Shootout qualifying is to move to Friday, with the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday before the main race on Sunday.

Major talking points are believed to include parc ferme, with cars being forced into it after just 60 minutes of practice in 2023 Sprints and the possible adoption of reversed grids for the Sprint.
