Tsunoda triggers Mexico red-flag to stop qualifying

Yuki Tsunoda crashed out in the closing stages of Q2 at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Yuki Tsunoda triggered a late red-flag in Q2 to eliminate himself and RB team-mate Liam Lawson from Q3 contention.

The Japanese racer was in 11th on the final runs in Q2, but locked the outside front-left tyre on turn in at the left-hander of Turn 12, spinning into the barrier before entering the stadium.

With just 10 seconds remaining on the clock, it brought to an end the segment, with Lawson, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas all unable to improve their times.

There was a delay to the start of Q3 whilst barrier repairs were made.

It means Alonso will mark his 400th grand prix entry with a 13th place start at best, depending on whether Tsunoda takes a grid penalty for changes.

It came after Sergio Perez and Oscar Piastri suffered a shock Q1 exit - with Perez 18th fastest in front of his home crowd.
