Oscar Piastri has insisted his victory in Azerbaijan was more special than his maiden F1 win in Hungary.

Piastri's first race win came following a team order controversy at McLaren, with the team opting to reinstate Piastri to the head of the field after being undercut in the pit lane by team-mate Lando Norris.

His second career triumph came in Azerbaijan after fending off a fierce challenge from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

When asked if his second win was more special than his milestone first victory, Piastri told media including RacingNews365: “I would say definitely.

“I think just the amount of hard work and pressure that I was under in Baku made it much sweeter.”

The 23-year-old highlighted the rare instances of intensity he endured in his junior career to defend the race lead, a situation he was thrown into in Baku.

“I think Hungary was definitely special, don't get me wrong, but I think, in any kind of race where you have to work so hard for such a long part of the race [it is better]," he added.

“I've had one race win like that in my career.

“And until Baku, you know, it wasn't necessarily my most dominant performance or my best performance, but it's always the most exciting one.

“For now Baku takes the cake for that. But, yeah, the emotion after Baku was special for different reasons compared to Hungary.”
