A major personal sponsor of Sergio Perez could be about to stop sponsoring the Red Bull F1 team, according to reports.

Telmex has been one of Perez's personal backers since his F1 debut in 2011 - the telecommunications company for whom billionaire Carlos Slim acts as chairman.

Slim has consistently been ranked as one of the richest men in the world, but owing to AT&T increasing its sponsorship of Red Bull, ESPN has reported that Slim feels it is counter-productive to have two major telecommunications companies sponsoring the same team.

Telmex is to continue on as a personal sponsor of Perez, now into his fourth season with Red Bull, although his place is under threat for 2025 due to a lack of results alongside championship leader Max Verstappen.

A similar situation occurred for Perez back in 2013 when he was at McLaren, who had a title sponsorship from Vodafone.

Perez sported Telmex branding on his helmet and race suits during his sole Woking campaign.

"The issue of Checo's contract is independent of the issue of our sponsorship, it has always been like that since he signed with the team," Slim told ESPN.

"but if there was no longer the opportunity to continue with the team, we would certainly continue with Checo. The intention is to continue with Checo, wherever he is, we will be with him."
