Lewis Hamilton lost a point in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race following a post-race drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit-lane.

The seven-time world champion started the second sprint race of the season in P12 and was immediately in the wars, after making contact with Lance Stroll at the first corner.

Stroll then went into the side of Fernando Alonso who as a result tagged Lando Norris, leading to the McLaren driver and Stroll retiring at the Miami International Autodrome. The opening corner chaos trigged a safety car.

That incident was not investigated by the stewards; however, Hamilton speeding in the pit-lane during the safety car period was.

Due to debris at the first corner, the safety car went through the pit-lane which is where Hamilton picked up his penalty.

He was recorded going 90.7kph through the pit-entry line, with the limit in force this weekend being 80kph - 49.7mph.

The post-race drive-through penalty was converted into a 20-second time penalty, demoting the Mercedes driver from P8 to P16.
