FIA makes modifications to Azerbaijan GP F1 track

The FIA has decided to lengthen the DRS zones F1 drivers will be able to use in this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. 

The Baku track features two activation zones, one on the exit of Turn 2 and the other part of the way down the long pit-straight and into the braking zone for Turn 1.

Both zones have been slightly modified for the weekend, with the major changes coming to the second activation zone on the pit-straight.

In 2023, drivers were able to open the rear flap some 447 metres after the final right kink of Turn 20, but for 2024, this has been decreased by 100m to 347 metres after the final corner.

The DRS zone on the exit of Turn 2 has actually been shortened by two metres.

Across the 2023 season, the FIA opted to shorten a number of DRS zones, but the drivers were unhappy as it decreased the chances of overtaking, with the Belgian Grand Prix zone leading onto the Kemmel Straight one such zone affected. 

Elsewhere, the track has undergone minor works, including new sections of asphalt between Turns 2 and 3, 7 and 8, and 12 and 13.
