Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has stated he is not paying attention to the championship standings as the title fight nears its end.

The Italian squad currently sit second in the constructors' table, 36 points down on leaders McLaren.

Red Bull, who is looking to defend its titles, is a further 13 points behind Ferrari with three rounds remaining in the season.

Ferrari endured a difficult round last time out in Brazil with Charles Leclerc crossing the line in fifth place while team-mate Carlos Sainz spun into the barrier in treacherous conditions.

As F1 prepares its final races to decide the championship, Vasseur insisted he is not interested in knowing the gaps in the standings as he prefers to take it race by race.

“We have the same approach for months now that we want to be focused race by race because for me it’s the best attitude,” Vasseur told media including RacingNews365.

“Just to be focused on what you can do and not to try to calculate and we keep the same one for the next week.

“Honestly, I can’t remember the classification today, I know the classification but not the points and I want to keep this up.”

The next round takes place in Las Vegas - where Ferrari scored a second-place result last year with Leclerc, who overtook Sergio Perez on the final lap.
