Oliver Bearman believes he would have progressed into Q3 if he had extra preparation laps during final practice on Saturday.
Bearman's FP3 session was cut short in Baku as he collided with the barrier at Turn 1.
The Haas substitute went deep into the corner and attempted to back out too late, making contact with the wall which resulted in terminal damage.
The car was repaired in time for qualifying, a session that saw the Briton finish in 11th place in Q2 - narrowly missing out on an entry into the top 10 shootout.
“I'm annoyed just because it's bad to damage the car,” Bearman told media including RacingNews365. “I gave the guys a huge job between runs.
“They finished the car like five minutes before we went out. First of all, I need to give a huge shout out to them, because they work tirelessly. This is where they make their money.
“I'm a bit disappointed because I feel like I could have been in Q3 if I got those extra two Soft tyre runs in FP3.”
Bearman will take his second race start on Sunday, having made his debut earlier this year for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia.
Should he score points, he will become the first driver in F1 history to score points in their first two races in different cars.
“I can write the history books a little bit,” Bearman said, when the statistic was put to him. “No, I'll be aiming for the points tomorrow.”
