Fernando Alonso has hinted he could move to Aston Martin's world endurance programme after his current F1 deal expires in 2026.

Alonso is gearing up to work with iconic F1 designer Adrian Newey for the first time in 2025 after Aston Martin signed the outgoing Red Bull chief technical officer, with the '26 machine set to be the first fully Newey-designed car Alonso has driven.

However, he will turn 45 years old midway through the 2026 season with manager Flavio Briatore hinting that Alonso would walk away from grand prix racing after a four-year spell with Aston.

Should he return to F1 for 2027, Alonso would become the first 46-year-old to compete since Maurice Trintignant at the 1964 Italian GP, but the two-time world champion has hinted that an Aston Martin sportscar berth could be his destination.

"I will be driving in 2026 and after 2026, I will be in Formula 1 or another series," Alonso wryly told media including RacingNews365.

"If I am not driving in Formula 1, I will be in the Aston Martin team somehow, so I will enjoy that bright future hopefully.

"The Valkyrie programme for Le Mans is taking shape as well and making its debut next year so who knows for 2027, 2028 or 2029?"
