Frederic Vasseur has told his Ferrari team that it must look back at its failures in the F1 season if it wants to capture the constructors' championship.

Ferrari is currently in second place in the standings, 36 points behind McLaren and 13 ahead of Red Bull with three rounds and 147 points remaining on the board.

Glory for Ferrari would be their first F1 championship since the 2008 constructors' and Vasseur's first in grand prix racing, with the team in contention following a sticky patch during the mid-part of the season.

After a one-three in Monaco, Ferrari was within striking distance of Red Bull, but a double DNF in Canada and relative low-scores after a botched Spanish GP upgrade put the team on the backfoot.

However, new parts for the Italian GP transformed the SF-24, with Charles Leclerc winning twice and Carlos Sainz once since the summer break, with Vasseur not wanting to reflect on the barren run of form.

"I don't think we've lost so many points on the strategy, but for sure, you have frustration when you look at the complete season," he told media including RacingNews365.

"We made mistakes as a team, had some issues, but I think that is true for everybody.

"If you look at that, everybody can say that: 'if I didn't do this or this and at the end, with the kind of fight with three or four teams where it is close, everybody can be world champion'.

"But the most important thing is to avoid racing with 'if', because everybody can win races, but we need to focus on what we are doing to try and improve.

"It is a very good feeling for the team [when we execute] the strategy, the pitstops and everything well.

“It is like this that we have to finish the championship if we want to improve on the classification.”
