Carlos Sainz caused a red flag in the opening minutes of the Q3 session after crashing at the final corner.
Sainz was just starting his first lap of the Q3 shootout, slowing down to let Oscar Piastri by before commencing his own attempt.
However, he lost the rear of his car as he sped through the Turn 18/19 complex.
The car entered the barrier rearwards and inflicted damage at the back of the car which could mean an engine and/or gearbox change ahead of the grand prix.
The Ferrari driver was able to get out of his car unaided and returned to the pit lane but will start no higher than 10th on Sunday.
Sainz's result in Singapore is of great contrast to his 2023 result at the venue when he took pole position and the race win.
