Lewis Hamilton is hopeful the F1 pecking order will stay “consistent” after the sport achieved its goal of closing up the competition.

Red Bull commenced the campaign in strong fashion but has slipped back down the pecking order of late.

Across the last eight races, McLaren has won four times, Mercedes has triumphed on three occasions while Ferrari added another victory to its tally.

Red Bull dominated the 2022 and 2023 F1 campaigns under a fresh set of technical regulations, but Hamilton acknowledged the sport has succeeded in its goal of tightening the field after domination from a single team.

"It's amazing, this is how it should be,” Hamilton told media including RacingNews365

“I think this is ultimately the goal when they set the rules, but it never works out that way.”

McLaren's impressive run of form has seen it take over the lead of the constructors' championship with six rounds remaining.

Hamilton is hopeful the current level of competitiveness will remain in place going forward.

“It's great that it's finally in that phase with McLaren who have had a great rise out of nowhere,” Hamilton added.

“You saw the Ferrari win [in Italy], and us before that. Hopefully these next races, you’ll see something more like that and it stays consistent.”
