Maximilian Günther has conceded that the start of his Maserati career last season was "really tough", but that now after a period of exceptional teamwork, the outfit are building in strength and stature.

Maserati's start to life in Formula E last year could not have really gone any worse, with Günther having made several driver errors which saw him not score a point until the seventh round.

However, his podium in the seventh round in Berlin has acted as a propellor for Maserati and the German driver, who have simply gone from strength-to-strength ever since.

The duo ended last year as one of the strongest partnerships on the grid, and have continued to challenge the biggest teams this season. Most notably, Günther heads into this weekend's inaugural Misano E-Prix having won in Tokyo, a race dubbed as the biggest in Formula E history.

Günther is a driver who strives for personal development, which has clearly had a direct positive impact on Maserati and the way they work together.

"As you know, I'm really somebody who is, all my career I'm constantly working on myself, on growing as a person as a driver, to become the best possible version of myself," Günther told RacingNews365.

"Start of last year was really tough, it was difficult. But then, okay, as a team, we took the right decisions, the right approach, and we turned the season around. And now it's just great, to build on a second year with the team.

"I know everybody, there are no surprises, let's say, and obviously in a championship like Formula E, when everybody is performing at such a high level, it's good if you've worked with a team for several years.

"And I think a lot of this just really benefits now, it's better because we started on this good base into the year and we keep improving."

'Feeling confident'

With Season 10 being Günther's sixth season in the all-electric series, it is very easy to forget that he remains as one of the youngest drivers in the championship.

At just 26-years-old, Günther's Formula E career is only going in one direction, which makes it no surprise that the genuine title contender is feeling extremely confident.

"I think I'm in a good position because, okay, I'm still one of the youngest drivers in Formula E, but at the same time, I've got a lot of experience and I'm feeling good and feeling confident," added the German.

"Yeah, we certainly look forward to the races to come."
