Formula E has confirmed to RacingNews365 that, unfortunately, the NXT Gen Cup series will not be supporting the championship this weekend at the inaugural Misano E-Prix or at all this season.

The NXT Gen Cup was supposed to be supporting Formula E at all European rounds this year (Misano, Monaco, Berlin and London), and recently tested at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

However, the electric Mini Cooper series for junior male and female drivers will now not be racing this weekend in Italy and will not be supporting Formula E across Season 10.

A Formula E spokesperson said: “NXT GEN’s participation at the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has been cancelled for Season 10 due to unexpected constraints faced by the support series.

“Formula E has already begun implementing positive adjustments to ensure the continuity and success of upcoming events, beginning with a revised schedule for the Misano E-Prix to ensure minimal disruption to fans and expanded activities that include: pit-lane autograph sessions, additional pit walks, and expanded promotional track activities.

“Formula E remains committed to nurturing the next generation of talent through FIA Girls on Track and other impactful initiatives for young people.”

It comes as a huge blow to the championship, which has not had a support category since the cancellation of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy mid-2020 as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
