Albon destroys Williams in fifth crash of crazy Brazil qualifying

That was a heavy shunt, one Williams is unlikely to repair in time for the grand prix.

Alex Albon was involved in the worst of the crashes during a chaotic qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix.

With four minutes remaining in the top-10 shoot-out, and with Albon second on the timesheet, the Williams driver caught the edge of the track on the high-speed run into Turn 1.

That sent Albon hurtling off the Interlagos circuit, resulting in a heavy impact with a barrier, and destroying the rear of his car.

It was the fifth red flag of the session after early incidents involving Albon's team-mate Franco Colapinto in Q1, Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll in his Aston Martin in Q2, along with the second Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso, joining Albon in Q3.

Both Aston Martin and Williams, in particular, face a fight to get their cars ready for the grand prix, with the latter team potentially light on parts.
