Lando Norris has highlighted his pace struggles around the Las Vegas Strip Circuit by theorising a road car could lap faster than his McLaren challenger.
Norris ended the second practice session in second place, marginally down on Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.
While the Briton is content with his qualifying simulation run, Norris stated he endured a torrid time during the race runs with an increased fuel load.
“I think the low-fuel stuff has been okay, the high-fuel, I was shocking,” Norris said.
“There are plenty of things to look into, these kind of combinations of things and what we struggle with, with different graining and stuff.
“I'm just not very good at it, it’s always a bit of a struggle for me. But [I have] a good amount of time to work on it.
“At least I can focus more on the high fuel than low fuel for now, but qualifying at the front will always help everything else.”
Norris enters the round looking to push the F1 title fight to Qatar, with Max Verstappen sitting on the verge of his fourth championship.
However, the 25-year-old conceded the low-grip Las Vegas circuit will make for a difficult weekend ahead.
“I hope so - they probably won't,” Norris replied when asked about the prospect of improved track conditions for the remainder of the weekend.
“It’s just very difficult, super low grip, I feel like I could drive a road car quicker than we drive at the minute.
“I don't know, mixed feelings.”
