Jack Doohan has revealed that he will watch the next five races "with interest", following Alpine's decision to swap him and Franco Colapinto for now.
Doohan has been dropped ahead of next weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with the announcement having been made on Wednesday morning.
Colapinto will return to the F1 grid to partner Pierre Gasly; however, unusually, another evaluation will take place in five races to determine whether he will keep the seat for the British Grand Prix onwards.
In being dropped, Doohan has become the team's main reserve driver, should either Gasly or Colapinto be unable to compete.
It has been a difficult debut F1 season for the Australian, who is yet to score a point after the opening six rounds.
Despite the disappointment, he is "very proud" to have become an F1 driver and is aware that he could yet return to the grid this season.
"I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula 1 driver and I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream," said Doohan.
"Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take because, as a professional driver, naturally I want to be racing. That said, I appreciate the team’s trust and commitment.
"We have long-term goals as a team to achieve and I will continue to give my maximum efforts in any way I can to help achieve those.
"For now, I will keep my head down, keep working hard, watch with interest the next five races and keep chasing my own personal goals.”
