Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has warned Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris that they are "going to come together" whilst fighting for the drivers' title.

With reigning world champion Max Verstappen having fallen 97 points adrift, it is expected to now be a straight fight for the title between the two McLaren drivers.

Ahead of the remaining 10 rounds, Piastri holds a small nine-point advantage over Norris; however, the Briton has won three of the last four grands prix.

Norris is very much the driver in form, and has been ever since he crashed into his team-mate in the closing stages of the Canadian GP.

Montreal marked the first clash between the drivers, with Piastri having come close to striking Norris in both Austria and Hungary.

Due to Norris' current form, Montoya believes Piastri needs to improve his performances due to every point being vital.

In the Colombian's eyes, a second collision is inevitable, with it set to be a title that goes down to every failed overtake being crucial.

"When you’re behind, it’s easy to come up and do what he’s done right now," Montoya told CoinPoker

"And you start seeing excitement and screaming for him. Oscar’s coolness has dropped a little bit. But it means Oscar is going to work his butt off through this. Lando cannot relax and Oscar needs to step up.

"So, it’s going to get to a point where, whether it’s intentional or not, they’re going to come together. Every point is going to matter.

"Every pass that you don’t make, every dive-bomb that you don’t make, is points that you gave away."
