Williams F1

Massive changes within the team began in 2020, with word that they were seeking buyers due to a poor financial performance in 2019. Dorilton Capital took over the outfit in August 2020, and the sale led to the late Sir Frank Williams and his daughter Claire Williams stepping down from their roles, with Jost Capito announced as the new CEO.

The move meant that the squad would not be under the leadership of the Williams family for the first time since the team's inception back in 1977. Started by Frank Williams alongside friend and compatriot Sir Patrick Head, the Williams team needed just three years to claim their first title with Alan Jones, while Keke Rosberg and Nelson Piquet added to the British outfit's tally of championships in 1982 and 1987 respectively.
 

After McLaren dominated the sport with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in the late 1980s, Williams returned to glory in the 1990s. Names like Nigel Mansell, Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve all won titles, while the team claimed four Constructors' Championships as they cemented themselves as one of F1's premier outfits.

Technical partnership with BMW

Williams entered into a technical partnership with BMW in the early 2000s, but the squad never managed to hit the heights of the previous decade. BMW ended the relationship in 2005 and the team declined from there, though Pastor Maldonado registered a rare win in 2012. 
 

A move to Mercedes power units in 2014 saw Williams finally return to form, notching back-to-back third place Constructors' Championship finishes in 2014 and 2015, with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas at the helm.

The resurgence quickly came to an end, though, as Williams slipped down the order in the following years, and eventually finished at the bottom of the table in 2019 and 2020.

First Williams points for Russell and Latifi
 

However, there was some improvement in 2021. George Russell and Nicholas Latifi both scored their first points for the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Russell regularly impressed by getting into Q2 in qualifying, and even Q3 on a couple of occasions. Williams ended the year with 23 points, putting them eighth in the Constructors' Championship ahead of Alfa Romeo and Haas.

Alexander Albon joins Williams

With Russell leaving the team for Mercedes, Albon joined Williams for 2022 as his replacement, and stole most of the headlines by asserting himself as the number one driver. The team finished at the foot of the championship standings after only taking eight points.

American Sargeant joins Albon for 2023, with the legendary British team hoping for a revival in the coming year. The American scored one point, and Alexander Albon scored a whopping 27 points, allowing the team to finish seventh in the constructor's championship.

Williams F1 Season 2024 and 2025 Expectations

Thanks to prize money, the team has a larger budget for the next season and hopes to finish even higher. Williams will end the season with Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto, who replaced Logan Sargeant after the Dutch GP. Unfortunately, the three drivers have caused challenges for the team, as they have collectively caused a staggering 13 million euros worth of damage. With the budget cap, this will not help the team in developing the car.

Carlos Sainz joins Williams

The British team looks back on a disappointing season, in which they finished ninth with seventeen points. In 2025, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon will race for Williams and the team hopes to make progress in the constructors' championship. How will Williams perform in 2025 with this new driver pairing?
