Oscar Piastri will head into the third sprint of the F1 season hoping to crush the opposition in the same ruthless manner he achieved during its grid-setting session.
The Australian qualified almost half a second clear of Max Verstappen, who lines up for the one-third distance race at the Belgian Grand Prix alongside on the front row.
It was comfortably a Spa-Francorchamps lap record for the McLaren driver, over six-tenths clear of team-mate and F1 drivers' championship rival Lando Norris.
Just eight points separating the two, so Piastri will be hoping to add to his small buffer during the shorter race before the main portion of the weekend commences.
With Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell all failing to reach SQ3, there is a good opportunity for points for drivers racing for teams lower down the order.
However, all three will be hoping to work their way through the field, but the lattermost - from P13 - is the only one of the trio with a realistic hope of breaking back into the top eight.
