Liam Lawson has declared his intention to see rain during the Belgian Grand Prix for the opportunities it could create.
Lawson enjoyed a positive qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps and ended the session in ninth place.
However, the New Zealander was left disappointed with his result, as his lap time was just one-tenth slower than Alex Albon who soared to fifth for Williams.
“It’s very encouraging, but so are others,” Lawson told media including RacingNews365 when asked about Racing Bulls' consistent pace of late.
“It’s more just frustrating on a day like today, when the top five is so close.
“If I look back to Austria, we were on the right side of it, just making it up in front of those cars.
“Today, we’re on the receiving end of it and at the bottom of it.”
While the weekend in Spa has been dry so far, rain is forecast for Sunday's race.
Lawson has spied an opportunity to move forward during the grand prix should the wet weather hit the circuit.
“I would like some rain, just because it creates opportunity. But at the same time, it wiped me out a couple of weeks ago [at Silverstone].
“I’ll just drive as fast as I can, regardless.
“It’s going to be similar [to the sprint] if it's dry. It's very hard to overtake here.
“It depends on what downforce level other cars are running, honestly.”
