Jos Verstappen aims ‘too late’ criticism at Red Bull

Jos Verstappen has revealed that son Max's frustrating balance issues with his Red Bull were identified earlier this season by the three-time F1 champion.

Red Bull has been wrestling with the problem in recent rounds, which has resulted in Verstappen and Sergio Perez suffering from oversteer and understeer.

Both drivers were particularly critical of the RB20 last weekend in the Dutch Grand Prix, where the car was seen not responding to Verstappen's steering input.

Ahead of this weekend's Italian GP, Perez revealed that Red Bull has discovered the cause of the balance problems, with it now being a race against time to fix. Verstappen, however, again complained his car would not turn during final practice at Monza.

According to Jos, his son informed Red Bull of the balance issue much earlier in the season but the team failed to listen.

"Verstappen already indicated at the beginning of the season that the balance was not right," Jos Verstappen said whilst making a guest appearance on Coen and Sander's morning radio show on JOE.

"That was not brought out, because you try to keep that inside. But back then he was already complaining about the balance.

"Only they didn't really believe it, or they didn't see it back then, and now you're actually a little bit too late."

Red Bull worries

Recent upgrades introduced by Red Bull failed to solve its balance problem, which has seen McLaren build a pace advantage.

Red Bull is no longer the dominant outfit, with Verstappen Sr believing the Milton Keynes-based team has gone backwards.

The former F1 driver does not think Red Bull has a solution to its balance woes yet and is concerned looking ahead to the upcoming races.

"The updates we introduced did not bring what people expected," he added.

"That's why as a team you stand still a bit, while other teams are making really big steps. To stand still is to go backwards, especially in Formula 1.

"The coming period does not look positive either. The races follow each other in quick succession and I don't think they have really found a solution yet."
