Jan van der Burgt werd in 1994 verliefd op de Formule 1 en sindsdien is hij zijn grote liefde altijd trouw gebleven. Hij studeerde journalistiek, enkel en alleen om in de Formule 1 als schrijvend verslaggever werkzaam te kunnen zijn. Een echte favoriet heeft hij na het afscheid van Michael Schumacher van de sport niet meer, al volgt hij de verrichtingen van Max Verstappen natuurlijk met speciale interesse.
