Max Verstappen smashes F1 record to leave McLaren facing Monza fight

Max Verstappen smashed an all-time F1 record to claim pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, leaving McLaren with a fight on its hands at Monza. The four-time world champion not only set a new Monza lap record, but also broke the F1 record for the fastest lap in terms of average speed. It was the result of yet another sensational lap by Verstappen, who is joined by Lando Norris on the front row. Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc complete row two, with Leclerc starting from the same position he won from 12 months ago. As for Lewis Hamilton, the Ferrari driver qualified in fifth but will start from 10th due to his five-place grid penalty.
