Lando Norris has revealed that his late Dutch GP retirement remains "very clear" in his mind, despite having moved into the lead of the F1 drivers' title.
The McLaren driver leads the championship by a single point over Oscar Piastri following his domination in Mexico City, where he secured pole and a comfortable victory.
It is the first time Norris has led the standings since Saudi Arabia in April, highlighting how long Piastri had been in control of the top of the title race.
However, Norris would have reclaimed the lead of the championship sooner had he not retired in Zandvoort after the summer break, where he was set to finish second.
Norris suffered an oil leak as a result of a chassis issue which forced him to pull to the side of the circuit, an incident that put him 34 points adrift of Piastri.
While he has overcome that deficit, it remains a setback that lives in his present memory.
Asked if Zandvoort feels like a distance memory, Norris replied: "Yep. But it's still very clear in my head. So, yeah. I mean, you put that behind you, right? You forget about that as much as you can, and you just focus on every race coming up.
"Yeah, you forget about every previous weekend. Of course, you try and learn from every situation, but every weekend's new and you have a fresh start to try new things and try and do better than before.
"And I feel like that's what I've done very well [in Mexico]. So, the last few have been decent. This has easily been my best performance. But still a long way to go, so I just have to keep doing what I'm doing, keep trying to be consistent against some very quick guys around me.
"And, yeah, I think that'll be good. But it doesn't mean because I'm ahead or behind or whatever that I have to drive or do anything differently. So, just keep doing what I'm doing."
