Liam Lawson has reflected on his season following his shocking early exit from Red Bull after just two races.
The New Zealander was chosen by Red Bull as Sergio Perez's replacement for the 2025 campaign, but quickly struggled alongside Max Verstappen in the RB21.
After just two races, the staggering decision was made by the Milton Keynes-based outfit to demote Lawson to sister squad Racing Bulls, a decision which saw Yuki Tsunoda promoted.
Since returning to Racing Bulls, Lawson has started to show the type of performances which saw him promoted to Red Bull in the first place.
While it took the 23-year-old multiple races to adjust to being back with the Red Bull sister team, he has gone on to challenge with Isack Hadjar – Hadjar is the favourite to partner Verstappen next year.
Lawson's highlight of the season so far is his fifth-place finish in Azerbaijan, a result which was claimed entirely on merit and with a strong defensive display against Tsunoda and Lando Norris.
Asked if he has been better off having been axed by Red Bull after two races, Lawson said: "I mean, that I’ll never know, to be honest.
"I can obviously look back on the year, and I think we’ve definitely found a lot of progress through the year, found a lot of things that have helped us.
"I can confidently say I’m in a much more comfortable position now than I was, especially when I first made the switch earlier in the season. Obviously, you're just playing catch-up, and as the season went on, I got a lot more comfortable.
"So I think so. As I said before, you can always look back on stuff, and I’ll look back over the season and there’s always things you can do better. From a stats point of view, it’s got a lot better, obviously.
"But from a personal side, there’s just things that I’ll always look back on and learn from and try to take that forward into any future racing I do."
