George Russell has stated previous contract negotiations with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff lasted just 24 hours.
Russell is currently in his fourth F1 season with Mercedes but has been associated with the German manufacturer for almost a decade after signing to its junior academy in 2017.
The Briton's current contract expires at the end of the ongoing campaign and questions were raised over the past year regarding Russell's position in the team amid Wolff's public interest in signing Max Verstappen.
In recent weeks however, it seems Wolff has cooled his pursuit of Verstappen as he asserted Mercedes is keen to retain its current line-up into the future.
Russell asserted he is not worried about what lies ahead for him as maintains faith he is Mercedes' right choice.
“From my side, there’s no stress whatsoever regarding a contract,” Russell told media including RacingNews365.
“Ultimately, contracts are in place in Formula 1 and things change very quickly. I believe in myself.
“You have to perform and it’s pretty much as simple as that.”
Russell outlined contract talks with Wolff have been uncomplicated in the past and he is not hurrying to get his next deal across the line.
“When it comes down to contract discussions, I think with us in the past, with Toto, it’s taken no more than 24 hours to have the conversation, and then it goes to the lawyers and we get something in place,” he said.
“So, there is no rush from my side, there’s no concerns, there’s no pressure.
“I’m enjoying where I’m at in the sport right now and enjoying my performance and just enjoying going racing. That’s the main priority right now.”
