Williams boss explains story behind livery change

Williams have unveiled their 2022 challenger, the FW44, complete with a bold new look. The team's CEO, Jost Capito, has explained what inspired the design.

Williams boss Jost Capito has explained the story behind the team's bold new livery. The Grove-based squad unveiled the FW44 at their launch event on 15 February, where it was revealed that the car sports a more extensive blue colour scheme than in previous years, along with some touches of red. Capito says that the redesign was inspired by various aspects of Williams' story. "The design really reflects on the brand definition we have redone last year," Capito said at the launch. "Especially when you look at the various shades of blue with the diamond scheme that we have in the brand as well, and also the little touch of red." When asked about the reason for including red, Capito explained: "That's British. We are a British team, we are a proud British team, and that's why we have a hint of red on the car." Capito also added that the team were "very proud" to be sporting the name of their new sponsor, Duracell, on the side of the car.

Albon and Latifi give their view

Drivers Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi both gave their backing to the new-look Williams car. "I think it looks great," Latifi said. "[It looks] fresh, like I said. The blue has been synonymous with Williams for many, many years, so I think that's important that it stayed, [and there are] the new flashes of red and a little bit of kind of electric blue. "I think it looks great in person, and I think it's going to look even better on the camera." Albon added: "As these guys said, it's clean, it is blue! It looks really good. I feel like it looks smart, and I feel like it looks like a fast racing car."
