Max Verstappen has questioned the need for a post-race investigation into his tussle with Lewis Hamilton during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman was called before the officials at the Hungaroring after he clashed with the Ferrari driver at Turn 4 on Lap 29 of the 70-lap race.

Whilst there was no contact between the pair, the stewards wanted to take a closer look after the chequered flag for the 27-year-old potentially pushing another driver off track and gaining an advantage.

When Verstappen planted his Red Bull up the inside of the quick corner, Hamilton took evasive action, going over the run-off section, losing the position to the four-time F1 drivers' champion.

However, the officials ultimately determined the correct result of the investigation to be no further action and the Red Bull driver was subsequently not punished.

After visiting the stewards, but before the verdict was announced, Verstappen was asked about the incident.

"The thing is that nothing happened," he told media, including RacingNews365. "We didn't even touch, that's the thing.

"So, for me, it's a bit difficult to understand why we have the investigation after the race.

"We explained our side. Well, Lewis was not there, but we explained our sides of the story. I don't think Lewis actually felt a lot for it, because if he really felt something for it, he's there in the stewards' room, right?"

"I think the both of us didn't have the best of weekends anyway, so that's just that one little thing.

"What is the more important thing, is that we have to look at our performance, which was not good."

Verstappen endured a difficult afternoon despite some exciting on-track overtakes, particularly at Turn 6.

Having started in eighth, he finished in ninth, taking two points. Reflecting further on the incident with Hamilton, he said: "Well, nothing [happened]. I mean, I went for a move up the inside.

"Of course, it's a fast corner, but with downforce, for us, you're a bit more under control anyway.

"I think he realised very late that I was up the inside there. So then he turned out of it a little bit, and then, of course, went off the track, and that was it. Yeah, we didn't touch. Nothing happened."
