Max Verstappen faced an unexpected visit from international doping agency WADA on Friday morning, ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Dutch publication De Telegraaf has reported the reigning world champion was woken up in his motorhome by WADA knocking on the door at 7 am on Friday morning, ahead of first practice.
The doping agency required a urine sample from the Red Bull driver, which he was unable to provide until an hour later.
Verstappen is known to have a different sleeping pattern from the other drivers, with Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko having revealed to the Dutch newspaper that the 26-year-old was not in the finest of moods ahead of Friday's running.
"Max was a bit grumpy," Marko told De Telegraaf.
"It is only a Friday, we should not make it bigger than it is. People from such an agency often come early, because then it is easy to deliver a first pee..."
The three-time world champion is targeting a fourth consecutive victory in his home event and his first win since the Spanish Grand Prix.
Verstappen will start on the front row in Zandvoort, alongside McLaren's Lando Norris who secured a comfortable pole position.
