F1 Barcelona Grand Prix 2026
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been a fixture on the Formula 1 calendar for years, although there will be some changes between now and 2026. The Grand Prix will no longer be held under the name Spanish Grand Prix, but as the Barcelona Grand Prix. From 2026, the brand-new street circuit in Madrid will be the venue for the Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1.
In the past, the race was held at various Spanish circuits, but the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been on the calendar since 1991. With an ideal mix of fast and slower corners, as well as a number of straights, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is also a perfect track for testing. In 2026, the first winter test will take place at the circuit.
The circuit has been modified several times over the years, with the third sector in particular undergoing a major overhaul. An extra chicane was added to reduce speed in the final combination of corners, although that section is no longer used.
A change was also made in the run-up to 2021. Turn 10 was redesigned and is now less sharp and more fluid. Tyre management is extremely important in Spain. Keeping the rubber fresh is one of the factors that will enable drivers to perform well in Barcelona.
When is the 2026 Barcelona Grand Prix scheduled to take place?
Next year, the Barcelona Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of 12 June to 14 June 2026 and will be the ninth race on the Formula 1 calendar. The first two free practice sessions will take place on Friday, followed by qualifying on Saturday.
