Max Verstappen has dismissed the security concerns that has prompted Red Bull to organise bodyguards during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend.

Verstappen will be shadowed throughout the weekend after Red Bull opted to play it safe with his protection following a tense at times relationship with team-mate Sergio Perez - who has called on fans to treat the three-time champion with respect.

Coupled with the hostile atmosphere that could await Verstappen is the fact that the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit has had a problem with crowding in the paddock - in particular in 2022 when drivers were often swamped heading from the hospitality to the garage.

Despite the presence of protection, Verstappen is non-fussed about the situation.

"I mean, why not," said Verstappen when asked about the presence of bodyguards in the paddock by media including RacingNews365.

"I have a bit more security here, but there are always a few countries around the world where it is very busy in the paddock.

"For example, last year here, it was really, really busy to get from your hospitality to the garage and it just helps to make things smoother on-track, off-track, from your hotel and stuff like that.

"We will do it whenever we think it's helping with the general flow of the weekend.

"I feel very safe, on [Wednesday], I had a full day of marketing and honestly, it's been a great reception here like I have always had, so it is good to be back."
