Oscar Piastri has been the hunted driver for much of the F1 season, but now he must become the hunter to become world champion.

Oscar Piastri has revealed that his current F1 struggles has left him confused, with the Australian trying to "wrap his head" around what is going on.

With the exception of his dominant performance in Zandvoort, Piastri has struggled since F1 returned from the summer break.

He is without a podium in his last four races, while he also crashed twice in the Azerbaijan GP. Piastri's Baku disaster was a significant shock, given how consistent he had been across the season.

His difficult spell continued in Singapore where he, again, finished off the podium after being hit by team-mate Lando Norris.

The North-American double-header failed to improve his form, as in the US GP Sprint he took out Norris, before finishing 42 seconds behind him in Mexico City.

Norris' supreme pole and victory in the Mexican GP saw the Briton take the lead of the drivers' standings, representing the first time Piastri has been second since Saudi Arabia.

Bizarelly, how Piastri has driven for much of the season is suddenly not working, something he tried to figure out at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

"It's certainly been a learning experiences, that's for sure," Piastri told select media including RacingNews365. "I think, for some reason, for the last couple of weekends it's required a very different way of driving.

"And what's worked well for me in the last 19 races has needed something very different the last couple of weekends, and trying to wrap my head around why it's been a bit of a struggle.

"But ultimately, Mexico was about trying to experiment with some of those things, because I would agree, I think driving the way I've had to drive these last couple weekends is not particularly natural for me.

"So, it's been about trying to [learn as much as I can]."
