Liam Lawson's first full F1 season didn't get off to the best of starts with his demotion from Red Bull after two races, and could narrowly miss out on an ultimate New Zealand record.
With four rounds remaining in the current season, Lawson has 30 points to his name, and is tracking to fall short of the most points scored by a New Zealander in a current season.
That record is held by Denny Hulme during his world-championship winning year of 1967, claiming 51 points, with Lawson 21 behind with four grands prix and two Sprints remaining.
Across the 24 races held thus far, including the four Sprints, Lawson has scored an average of 1.25 points per race.
If this is extended to the full 24-race calendar, with six Sprints, Lawson is set to end the season on 37.5 points, as he faces a battle to retain his seat for the 2026 campaign and beyond.
That would fall short of Hulme's 1972 tally of 39 points, with Lawson eclipsing any points tally of the other successful New Zealanders - Chris Amon (23 in 1970) and Bruce McLaren's 34 in 1960.
In the modern points system, Hulme's 1967 title-winning campaign would have yielded 161 points, with two wins, three seconds, three thirds and a fourth bringing him the crown.
