Vasseur ‘not a fan’ of Ferrari advantage over Mercedes

A usually key metric for any team - but Ferrari's Frederic Vasseur is not so sure.

Frederic Vasseur has detailed why he is "not a fan" of a supposed Ferrari advantage over Mercedes.

The two teams were locked in a battle for second in the Constructors' in the closing races of the season, with Ferrari holding momentum after a minor upgrade in Japan unlocked the car, as Mercedes stumbled towards the finish.

In the end, the Scuderia failed to overhaul the Silver Arrows by three points, but the SF-23 package proved stronger in terms of tyre degradation in those closing races - something that marked a turn around, with Mercedes' W14 previously being the better.

However, Team Principal Vasseur was not overly keen on the strength.

"I'm not a big fan of this," Vasseur explained when asked about Ferrari's improved tyre degradation over the closing races to Mercedes to media including RacingNews365.

"Because it is a matter of pace, as when you don't have the pace, you want to push more, and pushing more damages the tyres.

"[In Abu Dhabi], the McLarens didn't manage their tyres at all in Turns 2 or 3, they were flat out where we were managing the tyre life.

"But I think overall, we had an advantage of pace, and when you have an advantage of pace, you can manage and don't have the tyre degradation."
