Lando Norris stormed to pole position for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in treacherous conditions, beating Max Verstappen by three-tenths of a second.
Carlos Sainz rounded out the top three, ahead of George Russell and Oscar Piastri in fourth and fifth, respectively.
However, the Williams driver is to be investigated by the stewards after the session for allegedly rejoining the track "unsafely" during Q1.
Rain following FP3, which continued into the first part of qualifying, left the track incredibly slippery, with all drivers struggling for traction on the low-grip surface.
The first shock elimination came in the form of Lewis Hamilton, who will line up for the 50-lap race in Nevada from P20 on the grid.
The Ferrari driver was consigned to qualifying last on pure pace for the first time in his F1 career after hitting a bollard during Q1, which appeared to become lodged beneath his SF-25 right before the start of his final push lap.
