Unexpected 'guests' disrupt first Singapore GP practice

The first session at Marina Bay was hit by multiple yellow flags for the track invaders.

Seven years after the original, the Singapore Grand Prix has finally delivered the sequel with the Return of the Lizards in opening practice ahead of this weekend's race. In 2016, Max Verstappen famously came across a giant lizard at Turn 3, with his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase joking that he came across "Godzilla." During the first 60-minute session on Friday for the 2023 race, more lizards made their way on to the track, prompting Lambiase to joke that Godzilla now had kids. The lizards were on track through Sector 2, with drivers narrowly threading their way past, but it appears one was struck by Fernando Alonso. George Russell was even able to spot that different lizards were on the track and it was not the same overly brave reptile.
