Leclerc slapped with US Grand Prix grid penalty

Charles Leclerc will not be in contention for Pole Position at the United States Grand Prix as he has taken a grid penalty at Austin, along with Fernando Alonso.

Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso will both be forced to take United States Grand Prix Formula 1 engine grid penalties. Ferrari driver Leclerc - who topped the Pirelli tyre test in FP2 on Friday - has taken multiple new components that have exceeded his allocation for the season. The F1-75 has been armed with a fresh Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and turbocharger, each worth a five-place grid drop. Both the ICE and turbo are the sixth ones he has used in 2022, when only three are permitted for the season. As for Alonso, Alpine have fitted a new ICE to his A522, forcing him into the grid drop. They join Sergio Perez and Zhou Guanyu in also taking grid penalties for the race after they also took new components on Friday.
