Surprise Mercedes upgrade 'striking mix' between Red Bull and Ferrari

RacingNews365's technical analyst Paolo Filisetti gives his snap verdict on Mercedes' Belgian GP upgrades.

On Thursday ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Mercedes surprised with a fresh Formula 1 upgrade package with the focus being on the sidepods of the W14. This latest sidepod evolution is interesting as it seems to draw inspiration from the original concept of Ferrari, which was abandoned at the Spanish Grand Prix, with the 'jagged' profile at the rear particularly striking. Changes have also been made to the front of the W14, as Mercedes continues to develop the car and prepare for 2024's W15. Mercedes is pursuing a combination of different car concepts from rival teams, with the Red Bull RB19 the main contributor but with other concepts in the mix, with the Monaco-spec upgrade leading to the wishbones of the front suspension being modified. The hope in these upgrades is not only to improve performance now but also to lay the foundations for the W15 of 2024. View the modified sidepods of the Mercedes W14 below.
